Project Overview
The Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade is a major investment in Queensland’s North Coast Line — the state’s primary north–south rail corridor connecting Brisbane to Cairns. Stage 1 duplicates the rail line between Beerburrum and Beerwah, straightens the alignment between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains, and delivers new and upgraded road overpasses at Beerburrum Road, Barrs Road and Burgess Street to replace level crossings. The project also includes expansion of the park-and-ride facility at Beerburrum Station, upgraded signalling systems, and a new 1-kilometre realignment of Steve Irwin Way. Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, B2N Stage 1 is being delivered by the John Holland Queensland and Seymour Whyte Joint Venture under a Collaborative Project Delivery Agreement with TMR. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.
RCS Scope
Road & Civil Surveys provides embedded survey support across the Stage 1 construction program, with 5+ surveyors deployed across multiple work fronts. Scope covers earthworks set-out and as-built surveys, rail track and formation works, bridge and structure surveys for new road overpasses, and drainage and utilities infrastructure. RCS delivers rail alignment and geometry surveys, structural monitoring, control network establishment and maintenance, and data calculations and EOM reporting. Night shift and rail possession coverage supports live rail interfaces on the operational North Coast Line, while road and rail interface works require coordination across both transport corridors simultaneously.
Value Driven
B2N is RCS’s largest project in Queensland to date — a milestone that reflects the company’s growing national capability. The engagement came through both the John Holland and Seymour Whyte relationships, demonstrating how long-standing client partnerships across multiple projects create opportunities on major programs. RCS brings proven rail survey experience from Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 and Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 directly to the North Coast Line, providing the JV with a survey partner that understands rail alignment standards, possession protocols, and the interface between civil and rail construction. Combining road and rail survey capability from a single provider simplifies supply chain coordination on a project where road overpasses and rail duplication are being delivered concurrently. Reliable night shift and possession execution on a live rail corridor ensures critical closure windows are used productively without programme disruption.
