project information
Overview
The Berry to Bomaderry upgrade delivered 10.5 kilometres of four-lane divided highway on the Princes Highway — the final piece of more than 30 kilometres of highway upgraded between Gerringong and Bomaderry since 2012. Delivered by the Downer Seymour Whyte Joint Venture for TfNSW, the project completed the missing link for a continuous dual-carriageway between Waterfall and Jervis Bay Road south of Nowra. Key features included three interchanges, multiple bridge structures including an Australian-first weathering steel overpass at Meroo Meadow, underpasses, u-turn facilities, and local road modifications. Major construction commenced mid-2018 with the highway opening to four lanes of traffic in late 2022.
RCS Scope
Road & Civil Surveys provided embedded survey support across the civil construction program, with 3–4 surveyors deployed across multiple work fronts along the 10.5-kilometre corridor. Scope included earthworks set-out and as-built surveys, pavement and road set-out, and drainage and utilities infrastructure. RCS established and maintained the project control network and provided data calculations and EOM reporting. Night shift and weekend work supported live traffic interfaces where the new alignment tied into the existing Princes Highway.
Value Driven
RCS was engaged on Berry to Bomaderry through the Seymour Whyte relationship established on the M4 Smart Motorway — demonstrating the repeat-engagement model that underpins RCS’s client relationships. Reliable survey coverage across the full 10.5-kilometre corridor supported the JV’s delivery model by ensuring survey was never a bottleneck across concurrent work fronts in a regional setting. The project extended RCS’s track record on Princes Highway upgrades in the Illawarra and South Coast region and led directly to further engagements with Seymour Whyte.
