Project Overview

Elia Architecture engaged Road & Civil Surveys to help finish the in complete survey model underneath the main building of Dalby Hospital, which was built in the late70’s. This meant that all as-built information was unreliable, hindering Elia Architecture’s redesignefforts.

The Scope was to capture and model within the 500mm Crawl space and pick up:

  • the underside of the suspended slab, thickening beams, columns (and any otherstructural elements)
  • finished surface level
  • all services
  • any other anomalies that may impact design

The Geotwin Solution

Road & Civil Surveys deployed our in-house mini-LiDAR Rover to capture the Crawl space within the hospital buildings, which at the time of capture included more than 12,000 m²of Crawl space within the Hospital. This innovative method meant no Geotwin surveyor needed to be under the building, and Rapid acquisition meant minimal disruption to Darling Hospital. Fieldwork was completed in one day on-site with a one-person crew and our mini-LiDAR Rover. The Rapid acquisition meant minimal disruptionto the staff and Stakeholders at DalbyHospital, and a week’s turnaround in the resulting digital As Built can berelied upon for engineering assessment, remediation scoping, and to serve as a digital Twin.
